What specs are you looking for ?
I am kind of picky so my hunt will take longer- no problem though.
only a coupe, 86-89
not a garage queen but actually one set up for DE/auto cross (if poss)
no salvage titles/stories etc
reasonable price (ah!...there's the rub...)

This has not been easy...

Ok, I found one that I like -visually anyway:
http://www.easyautosales.com/used-ca...129807479.html

Problem: way too much money. I can't afford 47K. On top of that, I still have to have a PPI, ship it, etc. But it meets what I'm looking for:

It's an 87
It's a coupe
It's white
It has a tan interior

I talked with the seller, nice enough. Says he has all the maintenance records etc. Contacted Kathy with Jones Autowerks here in San Antonio. She's been great! Really keeping an eye out for me as well as helping out with advice. She calls the seller and asks him all the questions that an expert would ask. In the end, she says it "seems" like a really nice car, but do I really want to spend that much? I told her no, but that the seller would be willing to haggle depending on what's found on a PPI. Initially I came at him with an offer for $40K. He basically laughed, and said that "let's just wait and see what comes back with the PPI". I told him that I have to sell my Corrado first etc. Kathy pointed me to this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=331617938283

So, what about just saving the money, and having it painted? No, I can't live with black. It's just too damn hot here in the summer (San Antonio). I suppose I could try it, spend the money on a kick-*** after market AC, and see if I can live with it in black. But what about just having it painted white?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't get it painted. It's expensive to do well and will diminish the value.

I didn't want black either but I found an awesome car and jumped on it despite it being black but I don't live in Texas. I also didn't feel like waiting a year for a specific car especially with the direction prices are heading. You have to have the cash in hand and be ready to pounce.

Buying a black car to paint it white is stupid. Just sayin'.

And hot is hot. The difference in internal temp of a white car and a black car? Let's just say that I'll bet it's mostly psychological.

Wait to get the car you want (the way you want it). Given the market, I suspect we will both just have to get used to paying more than we feel is appropriate.

Words of wisdom, Gentlemen.

I had a feeling this was going to be the consensus.

Thanks.

Spend more energy selling the VW. Then when you find the right car you can act. Nothing would sting worse than finding the car, making the deal, and then losing it over $$$.
