Default What is 79 930 turbo signature addition?

I have found a low low mile 79 turbo, for sale by original owner. However seller wants huge premium for what he calls a signature addition which he claims was signed by Ferry Porsche. Does anyone know anything about this signature or car or anything?

The last 50 91 turbos received a plaque numbering them. The idea was these were the last of the turbos ever to be brought to the US, and the 930 was no more. LOL, guess technically the 911 Turbo was not a 930 based on the name alone. These cars really aren't worth any more than one that was not of the last 50.

The last 50 had a plaque that was commissioned by the importer , who at the time was Volkswagen of America. They were not done by Porsche , but were added here in the USA. I have researched this issue and rec'd some documentation from Porsche on the subject. I have looked all over my 79, and don't see Ferry's signature anywhere!! Unfortunately, I didn't get the plaque when I bought my 79 about 16 yrs ago, I don't know what happened to it. I would like to see what they look like if anyone ever runs across one.

Dave,
How does one tell if they have one of the last 50 if no plaque came with the car. The reason I ask this is, I have previously looked at a 79 turbo and the owner told me it was one of the last 50 and a signature edition. He also had no placque. This car I am looking at is in wisconsion. I am dealing with an intermediary. I will try to find out where you can look at car to see placque.

The vin # should be between 9309801150-1200.

I may be totally off base here, so take this for what it's worth - the US manufactured 930 Turbo for the 1979 model year had VINs 9309800001 - 9309801200. So, logically, wouldn't the last 50 be xxx1151 - xxx1200?

Paternie's "Red Book" makes no reference of special VIN numbers for the final 50.

Wow! Now there's a piece of Porsche history. You've got #1200. Did you purchase a certificate of authenticity? If so, was there any mention of the "last fifty"?

Have you ever spoken with PCNA and told them your VIN? Any eyebrows raised.

Regardless, I think it way cool. My father's boss bought one of the last fifty. He toss me the keys one day and told me to go fill it with gas. He didn't see me for more than an hour! An 18-year old kid in a new 930 turbo!!

Unfortunately, a couple of years later he was driving to work in the rain and a delivery truck lost control, hit him, and totaled the car (driver was unhurt). Insurance would not replace.

Gee whiz, I just asked some questions about Mike's car. It sounds very interesting. Lets not jump to conclusions......So do you think he wants to sell it?

Dan,
I did contact PCNA when I first bought the car some time ago, they passed my request for info on to Germany. They sent me some documentation but nothing on the plaque, other than to say that it was a USA importer add-on piece. It's kind of neat owning it -the car sold new in the Chicago area, and most of the PCA oldtimers around here seem to know a little about the car. Apparently it sold for a good amount $$ over MSRP when it was new, was put into storage, then sold when the 86 911 Turbo came out. The 2nd owner drove it for about 10K miles and traded it in on a Ferrari, that's when I bought it. It's a blast!!

I came accross these photos of the plaque and certificate that were delivered on the last fifty cars. By the way, this is not my car. I just have a habit of saving any photos I come across that interest me. Thank goodness for 80 gig hard drives.

If anyone would like a higher resolution photo, let me know. I couldn't figure out how to post this pic without losing much of the quality.
