Default Going f'n crazy

I got a 79 930 about 4 months ago. Its been a ton of fun to drive, the problem is getting it started . First the mixture was way to lean, got that worked out. Then its have problems hot starting, took it in to a shop and they tested it and said that I need new injectors (and a value job because its clicking). Well after the valve job (still makes the same noise) I got new injectors for about 90 bucks a piece and get it home this weekend. Well the stupid car now won't start cold or hot. Anybody got an idea what might be going on? I am going to take it down there tomorrow and tell them that the injectors didn't fix the problem. AND on top of that the car has a bad rattle coming out of the left side of the engine that was not there before, I think its the intercooler hitting the tail but like everything else on this car i don't know.

So if anyone has got an idea what’s going on OR has any stories about when they first got their car and had a bunch of problems but everything worked out great in the end.

Thanks,
Scott

PS, sorry about calling a 930 a "stupid car". I really do love it but we are fighting right now

Take your intercooler off at home. It will take you 10 minutes. Are the orange rubber "0" rings in good shape? A leak here would cause starting issues.

PS: Find a new wrench. There should be many very fine Porsche specialists in your area.

Default had a similar problem

Dont know if its the same fueling system but mine got to the point that it would not start either and had to have it towed. Charlesworth is the one who figured it out...he's pure genious by the way, it had something to do with a vacuum tank or some such he replaced..starts fine now...even runs better.
Tom's # is 664-8714 (918) good luck

I think your thinking of the fuel accumulator. This item keeps the fuel pressure up when you shut the car down. When its bad it can cause starting problems. Scott I would find another wrench as the one you have been going to should have know that the fuel accumulator should be checked when you have starting problems. Bad injectors does not cause starting problems unless they are totally clogged, and when they are clogged the car would have run bad too. 930 are CIS injection meaning fuel is always spraying, the injectors are only used to make a spray pattern. Any fuel coming out of them would start a car.

Check fuel pressure. Might be a failing WUR.

Thanks guys,

They said that they checked the fuel accumulator and the check valve in the pumps and they were ok. They also said that the injectors were not closing so fuel was leaking out and flooding the engine. That was the reason for the new injectors.

Does anyone know a good shop in phoenix?

6 failed injectors all at the same time??? I would consider that unlikely.

I did a search and these shops seem to have good reputations in the Phoenix area.

Stuttgart Southwest in Tempe (University and McClintock near the 101)
Ken Rosegay at Zuffenhausen in Scottsdale Airpark. 480-991-2377
Don Jackson Enterprises in North Phoenix at 602-997-2785

Get a new mechanic and GL!

Find a technician that is familiar with the Bosch CIS systems. They were used on a number of European cars in the 80's, so qualified technicians shouldn't be a problem unless you live a rural area. The problem you're experiencing is a common one, and can often be traced down to the Aux. Air Regulator or the Warm Up Regulator. You can throw money at these systems and probably fix the problem, but the best way to fix the problem is to isolate the circuit and replace the faulty component.

Stuttgart Southwest serviced my 1986 930 for the 5yrs I lived in Phoenix. I felt they performed competent and honest service.

Owners name is Jack Doverspike and all his wrenches are enthuisiasts... at the time he had one guy that specialized in 930 repairs.

Cheers,
Paul

Thank you all for your help,

I took the car into the shop (one that has been mention in this thread). They can't say off hand what the problem is but they are going to call me before they start replacing things. I will keep you informed.

In regards about replacing all 6 injectors. 3 of them went bad so after talking to a few people I decided to replace all 6 so I could have them match.

Thanks again,

Scott

PS, I have accepted the fact that my garage is only a vacation home for my 930

Default Porsche Specialist in Phoenix

Hi:

I had work done by Don Jackson Enterprizes (602-997-2785). They seemed to be pretty good. Ask for DJ.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the help,

I got the car back and they said it was running to rich and it this made it load up. They fixed it and didn't charge me anything (which was nice). They said to hold the gas petal down if that ever happens again. Do any of you guys have to do this?
Thanks again
