Default OBX headers--oh my...

Ok,

today I checked another OBX header set with my endoscope.
Again I found a small piece of metall, nearly loose in there.
It is at the end of one primary at the collector.
This is a very good example of what will go through your turbo
very fast after installation. Results are known.
Tomorrow I will try to cut this of with my micro-scissor through
the endoscope, lets see how big it is.

Sorry for the more than poor picture quality, but the endoscope
is old and not build for camera connection.

Harbor Freight sells a set for about $250 with a 36 inch tube. That should do the trick. Make sure it comes with the light option so you can see. As far as the industry looking into each set of headers, I doubt it. It seems like evey brand made has been blasted on ths forum at one time or the other.

only to make my point clear,
I have nothing against the OBX ones,
the price and overall quality fits very well.

Only that they dont know what they do is bad!
For a NA header a piece of loose metall from cutting will not
destroy anything. On our turbo cars, the damage is hughe.

The additional cost to clean up those cutting
areas is near zero, especially in China.

This is the 3rd from 3 sets set we found nearly loose pieces inside.
Tomorrow we will clean up this one and inspect the next one.

Cleaning up can only be done with a flexible grinding tool.
Sandblasting or soap and water is the wrong way for my taste.
I feel it neccessary to inspect them after grinding.

Yes, use your old turbo for awhile before you install the new one. Here's a pic of my HFS with 22 miles. It wasn't pretty...

Holy crap Batman! I'm glad I kept my old 3LDZ, so that when I decide to take the header plunge I've got a turbo that I can afford to waste.
BTW, where does one send his turbo off for rebuilds?

Hello,

I cutted of that small thing.
Was very loose!
It measures 8x2x0.5mm,
means itts very flat.
Picture would not tell a lot.

If that could have destroyed the turbo,
cant say...

Inspected another set, only one side, that was fine.

Just got my headers today and i inspected them not bad for 400 to my door i found one piece of metal just hanging on in the wastegate pipe near the turbo flange and theres a fair bit of polishing compound ? or cutting wheel debri ? in the header and oil tank , i did some test fittings the wasegate half of the header needs a little tweaking to line up the other half of the system fits well noticed one of the tips of my air injectors on the #3 head was chipped about a 1/4 inch that could kill a turbo easy i guess i got lucky and it broke off in small pieces time to loose the emissions crap
