Default SOLD: 1986 PORSCHE M491 "turbo look" Coupe!!!!

SOLD: 1986 Porsche M491 “turbo look” Coupe.

Guards Red / Tan Leather
56,224 miles

Super Rare - Only five M491 Coupes were manufactured by Porsche for the 1986 Model Year!!!

The 1986 Model Year was the first year with the new updated dash with larger vents and superior HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation & AC system); and the last year of the 915 transmission. Hence, this is my favorite Model Year!!!
will assist with international export!!!!

Started & Driven every 2-6 weeks to keep all the seals "wet."

ALL SALES FINAL
SOLD “AS IS,” “WHERE IS.”
THERE IS NEITHER WARRANTY NOR GUARANTEE STATED OR IMPLIED.

Questions? Call 858/454-9898 (9am-9pm PST)

Stock with the following Factory options:

C02 – Equipped with Catalytic Converter (e.g., 50 State Legal Emissions)
158 - Blaupunkt "Monterey" Cassette Radio
220 - Limited Slip Differential
241 - Shorter Shifting Travel
341 - Central Locking System
454 - Automatic Speed Control
470 - Without Spoilers, in Conjunction with Turbo Look
491 - Turbo Look
650 - Sunroof

The Blaupunkt "Monterey" Cassette Radio was/is only "semi-functional" (hence, why it's missing in the pictures). I've left the radio "delete," so the next owner can install the radio of their choice. There are period-correct Alpine speakers installed in the factory front and rear locations.

Also, even though this M491 Coupe lists option 470 ("spoiler delete"), it has Genuine Porsche front and rear spoilers.

I'm sure the previous owner added the "turbo" badge.

I have a "Carrera" badge available.

I think the price is a tad high. I didn't pay that much with a turbo.

Certainly looks to be a very clean car. Best of luck with the sale.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I hope you get as much as you can from the sale. But IMO you're asking for a premium that the market won't bear. A clean turbo might not fetch as much as you're asking. And as turbo targas have shown, rarity does not necessarily reflect higher pricing. Targas were made in fewer numbers than cabs and than coupes, yet usually exchange hands for less than those two other bodystyles. The M491 option was rare, but I'm not sure it's as rare as the "official" document suggests. There are definitely more than 5 '86 "factory" turbolook coupes on the internet. I think any official literature from Stuttgart is pretty circumspect. Their records are pretty poorly kept. Certainly not like Ferrari's archival build information, for example.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...n-numbers.html

Again, best of luck with the sale. If you can get anywhere near the asking price, that probably bodes well for the rest of the '80s 911 market.

I'm not looking to sell a "gaggle" of 86 M491 coupes..... I only have the one!

Nothing against Targas, but literally all buyers desire a coupe, then a cab and lastly,a few seek out a Targa (this is my experience, so spare me your high market demand Targa stories).

Over the past few years, rest-of-world buyers have capitalized on the weak dollar and "cherry-picked" our inventory. As foreign buyers adore coupes, they were the first to go. Once the coupes dried up, the cab inventory flew out.

Thus, it's no mystery that dealers are heavily stocked on Targas - they're all that's left!!!

I specifically wanted an 86. As wonderful as the G50 tranny was/is, I prefer the mechanical feel of a 915 in good nik. I also vastly enjoy the 86-89 dash. So for me, 86 is it (last year with the 915 and first year with the new dash).

Now that I have the car sorted (fresh fluids and new CV boots on re-built axles), I thought I'd see if there's a buyer.

If the car doesn't sell shortly, I'll make it mine.

Meaning:
*remove the sunroof (I have a Genuine Porsche sunroof delete roof in shock).
*install sound deadening material to the interior.
*When installing the new black headliner, I'll also recover the dash, knee pad and door caps in black leather.
*Fab and install black leather RS America style door cards (with red fabric door pulls).
*Install a black RS carpet set and a Genuine Porsche 89 Speedster Rear Seat Delete with Storage Bins unit (all currently in stock).
*for seats, I'll use a set of black on black leather 964 RS "shell" seats currently also in stock.

wha-la, for me, the perfect Porsche!

I think it's a beautiful car but for that kind of money you could buy a REAL nice turbo. To me the only person that would appreciate the nature of a copy of an icon would be someone with a large collection of Pcars and needed to fill a slot. My neighbor has an '86 just like yours and I am sure he would take less than yours and it is a cabriolet. Good luck with it.
