Default What a difference a coil makes..

Hey guys,
I was experiencing intermittent hesitation, hard starting, rough idle, backfiring excessive smoke, and overall poor performance. New coil and the difference was incredible. It starts and runs so smooth now.It even builds boost sooner.
That's all...

Even the brand new "bosch" brand coils are now made in Brazil, and seem to be slightly iffy on reliability. I'm on my third one, if this one fails I'm going to MSD!
The first one simply was suppling a weak spark, the second flat *** died while I was commuting to work, third one has been working flawlessly for about 9 months now.....

thats what my dealer friends said. The new ones last roughly 1 year here in Japan. It seems the ones with the black bodies lasted longer. I am considering a relocation to improve its longevity, but to where? I will check today if there is enough space where the de-funct external voltage regulator lives.

I had the MSD coil and ignition pack put in when mine quit and never looked back. Great investment, highly recommend it.

I've used the MSD6AL with the Blaster 2 coil for years. I like them because of the soft touch rev control. No more overboost cut off switch that throws you into the steering wheel.

I believe the MSD6AL same as A930ROCKET. My mechanic did the install so pricing included labour but I'm sure a quick internet search will yield current pricing as many aftermarket suppliers carry them.

Thanks for the link. So is it the 6420 and the 8208 coil, for an otherwise stock (CIS) car?

It's the 6420 (6AL) and the 8202 coil.

Summit carries the MSD6Al for $197.95 with free shipping: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-6420/

The coil at Summit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8202/

I will wait for this one to die before I make that jump.
Here is another coinkidink. After my last valve adjustment she started smoking mostly at idle and on deccel. After about a year, 5000km and the new coil that too has disappeared. I thought I needed valve guides, seals or a new turbo. I may still get the turbo since there is quite a bit of oil in the intercooler. Did I do something wrong?
Anyway she is running so well now. I mean she pulls smoothly from 0 in 2nd.
