Hi all, looking for some advice from 930 owners. I've had a few 911s in my time - two 964s, a 3.2 carrera, a 964 turbo and an SC. I currently have the SC as a track car and a 964C2 for the road. I love them both but the turbo itch is back...so I'm looking to chop the 964 in at some point.

I loved the 964 turbo and am very tempted to go back to one. Looks-wise it's my favourite Porsche. However, I loved the feel of my 3.2 and I adore my SC - in particular the lack of power-steering makes the whole experience so much more fun for me. So...I'm wondering if a 930 may be a better way forward and might offer a similar performance to the 964turbo but with the added benefits of the feel of the 3.2/SC.

Having not driven a 930 I'd love to hear opinions on how they differ from the 964 turbo. The two cars below have both caught my eye even though they are quite different to each other:

honestly i wish i had the better tranny and suspension of the 964 in my 930 every time i have it at the race track.

I really like the car in the first link. I am not sure what color of red is on that car but it looks great. I am curious who made the 17inch fuchs replica wheels on it? I know several guys making them in the US but these look different from the Rota's, Lindsey's, or Jeff Alton wheels.

I've had 2 930s and 1 964 turbo so I guess I can comment. My 79 930 was relatively stock as was my 91 964 turbo. My 86 930 that I still own is modded.

964 turbo Pros
- smoother power delivery,
- lighter clutch/smoother shifting with the G50
- decent ac system
- more refined
- ABS brakes

964 turbo Cons
- power steering felt artificially heavy and vague
- not as much road feel as the 930

930 turbo Pros
- awesome driving/road feel
- great steering/highly responsive
- the OMG! feeling when the turbo kicks in
- classic looks
- very raw
- bad boy car
- no power steering/ABS/hydraulic clutch (except for 89) to break

930 turbo cons
- what ac?
- limited to 4 spd

Concur +1 with WPOZZZ except 930 is not limited to 4 speed trans. In fact that 1989 has the preferred G50.

Yeah, the new ones are "nice" and, I also, have driven them extensively but the 930 is a much more visceral classic sports car kind of ride compared to any Porsche turbo after 1989. It's a relatively light car with plenty of torque and power to keep you cool. The G50/50 in the '89 930s are bullet proof. I have owned both a N/A 911 and a 930, driven everything up to the present and would always recommend the 930 to any avid sports cars fan. Drive the later '87-'89 930s especially the '89 w/ all the goodies and see what you think is best for your taste! I will be buried in my '89...

That is the ultimate 930!

I guess the easy way to put it is this: With the lack of electronic and power assist doo-dads, the 930 is much more engaging than the later iterations of the 911 turbo .

I had 3 930's 2 79's and a 78. All heavily modded - 400hp cars. Tracked them all. Great cars - miss them. 3.4l P&C's A bigger turbo & IC, 1bar boost spring headers and exhaust, and these things come alive. The boost is addictive.

I have since moved on to the 993tt. (also heavily modded, and recently converted to 2wd). Makes me miss the 930 a little less.

I would never again buy a 930, the damn things lead to irresponsible behaviour, too many looks from cute young girls, and way too much stress relief from the workplace....nah it would be a real bad idea!
