Anyone know how many 'painted dash' cars were made in '65?

I've collected some info, but by no means definitive. Serial numbers start at 350001 for factory built bodies and 450001 for Karmann. I own 350442, built July 22. The latest 350 series I have seen with a painted dash is 350553 and I have heard that the changeover to a black dash with brushed aluminum lower trim happened mid-August. Porsche was producing about 240 912's a month/8 cars a day back then so about 190 cars between July 22 and August 15 means about 630 factory-built 350 series cars. The only Karmann one I know of is 451233, which has been discussed here (was for sale at European Collectibles for a time), so close to 1233 Karmann's at least, allowing for transition. Hard to say without knowing a build date. So far we have 1293. How many are left? Hard to say, but I don't see them very often and I look.

Hi Charles, welcome to the list! IIRC this was Jeff Trasks car? Beautiful original example. Would you mind letting me know what you paid? Just trying to set real sale values for these cars since I own one.

Another data point...my 912 (sold now) was a Karmann built car and I believe was (based on serial number and research on 912 owners web page) the 1,197th car produced...it had a 3-guage painted dash in Gulf Blue. Loved that dash everytime I got in the car! The rust on the body was something I could live without, however...kept me up many nights worrying and was a big factor in me selling the car. That and the fact that it didn't have AC making it hard to drive as much as I wanted, at least comfortably.
