Default 6V Starting advice...

So I have a bastard '58 356 w/ a 912 motor (6V electric) which due to circumstances beyond my control has been sitting inside, under a cover, for a year without being started. I just popped in a new 6V battery and am getting juice, but nothing from the starter motor.
Before I get in there and start messing, is there anything you guys can offer in the way of common tips/advice/experience? I'm thinking the solenoid or voltage regulator might be toast. That said, in my old squareback, I'd just get under there and smack the starter with something heavy.

I'll probably (hopefully) figure it out on my lonesome, but just thought i'd give my 912 compadres a holler anyway!!!

Many thanks in advance.

Hey Matt, apply your VW knowledge here!! Smack that starter/solenoid and you'll be down the road! If that doesn't work then disconnect the wires, clean the connections and you'll be good to go. If you're getting juice, but nothing, not even a whimper from the starter, I'm confident this is the problem. They don't like to sit. Keep us posted.

BTW- where are you located? Pics of the car??

Hey thanks Butzip. I'll give that a go this weekend. I'll throw up a few fresh pics too - It's a pretty little car.
Oh and I'm in Wilton!

Hey great, I'd love to see it. We used to do a lot of business with ASML in Wilton.

Funny thing, a 356 engine in a 912, usually it's the other way around What carbs are you running?

Brgds, Peter

No no no! It's a 912 motor in a 356! I'm not that crazy! Twin Solex carbs.

I accept with information:Smack that starter/solenoid and you'll be down the road! If that doesn't work then disconnect the wires, clean the connections and you'll be good to go.
