Default 1968 interior question

Hello all,

I have recently acquired a 68 912. I looking to restore the interior, the exterior is Ossi blue and I found that some time ago the interior metal dash was also blue. Would a 68 come with the interior dash painted to match the exterior or they where all black.

Thanks.

Im no 912 expert but Ive been around them a while and never seen anything but black. I would suggest a trip over to 912registry.org for expert information.

no, only 65s had painted dashes. 68s did not, unless done so by a previous owner during a repaint. a painted dash on a 68 is very incorrect, and not original.

This is a really good book on the early 911 / 912 if you are interested in finding out what was "original" to your '68.

Yes, as shown above, the dash would have been delivered in satin black with the lower trim in brushed aluminum, however, the satin black was sprayed on over the cars body color paint along with several areas on the floor that are exposed to the eye and the outer edge of the interior door surface where the door panels don't quite cover. The change from a 'painted dash' to the satin black dash happened in late '65 for the '66 model year along with the option for 5 gauges instead of just 3 for the early cars. Hope that helps.
