Default Buying a 914.

I'm going to go look at this car
The only thing is he sold the Fuchs rims off of it.

What do you guys think of the car?
What do you think a good price is for it.
It's a 1976 Posrche 914, with a 1.7 liter, 5 speed
107k miles
Some rust in the drivers floor and pass floor behind seat, Suspension mounting points are fine.

When I go and look at this car what should I look and listen for?
Can someone tell mw about the front and rear bumpers, the are different than most 914's

Those are the crash bumpers that came out in 75 and were also on the 76 which is the last year of the 914. It is possible to back date the bumpers, which many people do. Rust is hard to deal with no matter which year you are looking at. It all adds up quickly when you are the guy doing the projects or paying for them. Most will tell you to get the best example of the 914 you can afford. Jim

Interior door panels don't look right. They look "smooth" vs the basketweave later cars came with.
The extra "tits" on the front bumper were required for California and MD.. Could have been optioned on other states..

passenger door handle "bottom" is missing. Should look like a solid (non-opening pocket)

Aftermarket rocker panels (raised porsche lettering) be sure to check jackports and longitudinals

Black was not a very popular original 914 color by 75-76. I'd look for signs of a repaint.
A 1.7 is not original for a '76. 76 came only with a 2.0l

I assume the dash is cracked under that carpet cover?

Check all the seals (trunks, roof, windows) as some of these can be hard to replace, but importantly, they like to trap moisture. Check trunk panels for rust.

Rust at the back of the floor would make me look harder near by for more.

How was the battery tray and "hellhole" underneath?

From the looks of the door panel on the pass. side and the aftermarket rockers, I'd probably run from that one, but then I'm partial to the pre- 75 bumpers. The rear springs look soft too, a common ailment. At least the door jam isn't rusted through on the bottom, or at least where you can see it...

+1! I can't really give you a good idea of what I think unless I know how much he is asking. If he is asking cheap money it might not be a bad buy, but if he is looking for a decent chunk of $$ I would pass.
