Default 914 VIN info

I have purchased a collection of vintage Porsche cars and parts. I want to find out how to read the vins. I believe according to one title I have a 1970 914 with a 6 cyl 23.8 hp/ccm. Illinois title, I.D. 4702906568. Any info would be awesome...

If the vin starts with 470 that's a 1970 with 4 cylinder engine. Though it could have a 6 cylinder engine transplant in it. If it were a factory 914/6 the vin would start with 914 instead of 47.

Default 914 vin

After holding 4 or so 914-6 car/ titles , I concure with above member info. Non Porsche 914 did not recieve a 914........... vin. All 4 cyl. cars recieved 471 = 71 472 = 72 473 = 1973 and so on.. stahwille

Thanks for the info. All 5 tubs that I purchased are #470, 470, 472, 473,474, 474. I was surprised to see 6cyl. listed on the title. I will be selling/building a few more cars. My intention is to build one into a group8 AP 914/6 race car.

Do you know who Dave Pateman is? If you don't mind, he would love to record the vin#'s. He's kind of the 914 historian. Even the ones that are dead and going to get cut up. His records are extensive. His email is david_j.pateman@sympatico.ca
