Andrew - I just thought I would share a laugh at your expense! I assume you meant strong? I jus wonder what the odds are of spelling it wrong twice but having it be two different spellings :>)
I am just playing with you BTW.

The term '0wn' and saying '0wned j00' have their roots Firmly in IRC from well before 1992 (when I got online). Check out a 'L33+ dictionary' here:

@$ 4 r3pl@c1ng l3++#r$ w1+h ch@r@c+3rs... as W88951 said, it's an easy way to strongly encript passwords with simple words. It's been creativly dubbed 'haxoring' and it quite commonly used in the IT field.

Translation: Wow, I guess that none of you are computer guys. If you were then you would know that replacing letters with numbers or special charagchters is a way of creating stron passwords using common words that are easy to remember.

BTW: the use of different numbers/characters for passwords is valid. But it's stupid to use such characters in real life.
While I'm on the subject, I also LOATHE those people who write words that alternate the letters between capital and lower case, such as: ThE qUiCk BrOwN fOx JuMpS oVeR tHe LaZy DoG. These people need to get outside and take in some fresh air.

I suppose it would make sense if it did come from ricers.. racing for pink slips. For the victor would own the car..
Though I can remember that terminolgy from pre-2000's rice era

Personally I love the language of the 'Net: "pwned" is one of my favorite expressions, along with "b0rk3d".
They're also the only examples of 1337-speak that don't sound unbelievably stupid when spoken aloud.
