I like the Bazookas best. I have one 10" amplified tube in the back of mine. I like those because if you want to take it out its just one simple plug. Sounds great too.

The position of the sub is not criticle,I had one in the trunk of my celica. Also my sub box was placed behind the rear seat of the 944,with cover shade drawn it was not visable. It sounded great! One 8 inch was enough for me.

Still have the sub box if anyone needs one.

I have had a single 10 and a 2-10s in the back. Both sealed boxes, both sound good depending on what music you like to listen to. Only trouble I had was a little hatch rattle with both. I think I need new hatch pins though. I've used JL and MTX subs with an old Apline V12 mono amp. Happy with the setup. If you need trunk space forget it. By the way, I would keep the amp out of the side compartments in the back. I had mine there, and the added heat was blowing fuses quite often.

Was thinking about the rear wheel well but don't feel comfprtable without the spare tire. Trying to decide between one in side compartment (which i was told from a guy in audio store wouldn't sound good) or an enclosed powered sub.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. Ask him if he knows what corner loading is. One sub in the cubby on either side (or both) is corner loaded. Using the exising structure of the car to enhance the bass output.

http://www.soton.ac.uk/~apm3/diyaudio/Subwoofer.html

"A subwoofer placed on the floor in a corner will have an enhanced efficiency due to reinforcement of the immediate reflections from the walls and floor, which is not available for a free-standing loudspeaker. "

I know above quote is referencing home use, but it applies to car also.

That stereo guys a dope! Look at the shape of the back of your car kinda resembles a megaphone now start reflecting soundwaves off the rear glass. Get the idea. I have a single 8" fosgate in the right rear compartment in a sealed box I'm not driving it hard either sounds great.

Think a new all that and got sidetracked by someone who was supposed to know more than me. I have told everyone I know who has bought a home subwoofer where to put it. Wondering if there as any rattling in the cubby placement? Also is it a fully enclosed sup or is that just a cover that fits over the cubby with the speaker mounted in it?

Also what is the best way to get the amp (and the head unit i am installing) hooked up to the battery for power. Where is the best place to go through the firewall?

Placement of the sub is not critical like regular speakers. The subs create "non-directional" sound. With in reason you can place them anywhere and it will not effect the sound. If you put on the left, right or middle of the hatch you won't be able to tell were the sound is coming from.

Was just wondering what kind of enclosure is needed if the sub is going in the storage place. Can you just mount it to MDF and place it in the storage area or do you have to make a full enclosure?

for best sound reprod. build a box for the cubby hole mdf works as it's non-resonating. If you pull the battery there's a rubber grommet in the firewall this goes straight into the interior. My box is mounted in the right hole amps are in the left. You could ghetto it by just using a top board but the sound won't be as accurate.

Think the mechanic filled in that hole when he repaired my battery tray. Any other holes?

The hole's not in the tray part it's on the vertical part of the panel, there's usually a plastic plug that's painted body color in the hole you have to remove the battery to see it.

Heres what I did. I took 2 brakets, put them underneath my carpet, sliced the capet so the brackets pretruded through, then put the sub box on top of the carpet between the brackets that pretrude the carpet and screwed them to the side of the sub box. Now I can take the brakets out of the carpet and have no sign of the knife marks that I cut to pop the brackers through. Here is a pic. sorry for the confusing detial hard tp explain.

See a nice clean install. The bonus to my setup is not having to drill into the body of the car OR the GAS tank
