Given that production ended in 3/4 of the way through 1988 I sort of doubt there were any 1989s produced......

Porsche could have used option code 718 to turn an 88 into an 89. They did this all the time in the nineties.

718

There may be a "1989 924S." I say "may" because I have never seen it but have some pictures. It had the oval dash instead of the 3 hole in 924s. It was most likely a prototype, as the documentation I saw with it stated that, unless this was somebody's hack job or promotional gimmick. As far as buying one, I don't think that is possible. This was the link it was at but it's not working anymore:

If you will PM me and provide your email address I will send what I have.

Good in theory, one that I would normally agree with even, except that I bought one last week.
The internet shows at least 1 other one may exist too.

Just looking to to find out how many might actually exist.
Thank you in advance,
Viking

The one I have is very similar, oval dash, 944 steering wheel, but blue in color, and rare to 924S D90 wheels. Lots more stuff I am still learning.
My email is onefastviking@yahoo.com
Thank you.

Your VIN should reflect the 924 model and the 1989 model year then...

WP0AA092*KN4##### - The 924 designation can be found in position 7 and 8 and 12. The K indicated 1989.

So you have a 924S with a vin starting WP0AA0923KN.....? The significant letter being the K (10th in line) representing the 1989 model year

Glad we were not dueling at the O.K. Corral, Jeff would have taken me down with his quick VIN number draw.....

Yes. I know how to read a vin and it is clearly a 924S with a K, 1989.

It’s one that I had never seen before and I’ve been dealing with Porsche ‘s for 30+ years.
Thats why I was asking here to see if anyone else had seen such a car.
I am currently trying to figure out all of the history on this potentially rare car.

What engine is in it? Like the rest of the 89s is it the M44.11?

And the reason I ask about the VIN, I know of at least 1 944 that was converted to 924 looks by replacing the rear fenders, and then bolting 924 fenders on the front. Why it was done, I have no idea. But I found it a few years ago when I was considering using a 944 turbo as the basis of a 924 GTS tribute built.

M44 / 11
which makes the motor a 1989 944.
Yet build date according to manufacturer sticker is 2/88.
