werk 924 (germany, google it) makes new ones.

JustDashes in California will re-manufacture your core to new for $1500 or so.

or you can try classic9 for a dash re-covering kit or service.

Classic 9 does great work. My early dash was around $800 including deleting the center speaker grill and covering the glovebox.

Unfortunately they stopped serving 944 owners shortly after that.

That's unfortunate to hear since they are somewhat local to me. I was looking forward to having them do some work for me. Do you know what the reason was for C9 to back away from 944's?

I've got an early recovered dash in black. PM me if you're interested.

Probably because most 944 owners are too broke-dick to bother with most of the time.

C9 still makes dash kits. I just purchased one a few weeks ago. It’s DIY... but I think they still offer to do it as well.

The Whole Earth Catalog alternative, which is surely cheaper, better, faster, easier than removing the whole dash, when you'll break old plastic bits while messing with it for days:

Four-way stretch vinyl would be a prime candidate if the stuff at JoAnn Fabrics or wherever does not conform well. Also, if not conformable enough due to fabric backing, you may be able to simple peel off the fabric reinforcement by use of a solvent such as acetone (carefully).

The shortcoming of this YT video is lack of detail on proper installation of the new vinyl at the front edge under the windshield glass. Maybe use of spongy wedges (maybe a bunch of clean 4" foam paint brushes?) to hold the front edge of the vinyl snug until the glue sets. Application of vacuum to suck it down to the metal dash chassis may also work, but sealing the vacuum would be fiddly.

I really struggle to see how you'd manage to do a good job without removing the dash. In my opinion you should put the extra effort in and do it properly if you're going to recover it yourself.

You are going to end up with a crappy looking dash if you try and do it in the car, i guarantee it. I've done 2.

What do you think about these leather skin covers?
I will take the dash off for this job.
