Power Loss above 4K rpms
When ever I accelerate above 4000 rpm's my S2 feels like it is losing power and I can hear a distinct hissing or air rushing sound that sounds like it is coming from under the car.
Any thoughts? Is this likely the clutch slipping or a fuel deliver/ignition problem. The engine seems to rev smoothly. The clutch has 50k on it and I have not abused the clutch at all plue the last 30k miles have been predominately highway miles.
Please help!

I am having a simular issue, but my car vibrates a little more in the high range of RPM's. MadMax, does your car have an issue like it's reached its peak HP & TQ at 4grand or does it still feel like it's pulling?
I just had my Cat replaced less then 6months ago on my car. (So maybe my symptoms are the same issue is different)

if it was the clutch going, the way it works is that in higher gears, it starts slipping at higher rpms. (ie the RPMS fly up but there's no acceleration) and the more it wears, the sooner (RPM wise) it starts to slip.
You would also be able to smell it at some point.

Thanks for the input guys. I will investigate the "plugged cat" possibility. I have come to the conclusion that I don't think it is the clutch either. I have also noticed that my gas mileage has gone in the toilet. A plugged cat would definitely effect gas mileage. The car has 106k and it is the original cat.
Thanks, Max

Hmm, I as well think I have a plugged cat, around 5k my power seems to drop off, although the engine sure sounds like it's working, my exhaust leak is too loud to hear any hissing that may be present. When I pull my headers to weld them, I will check the flow through the cat.
Good links Hawk36, that is cheaper than the $450 US I found.

And I just tossed the extra cat that came with the 86....I still have the original headers, which I think are Euro's but I haven't had the chance to check the numbers.
