Default Leaving "Watercooled" ; entering "Air Cooled"

Oh YES.......

Since a frind of mine bought his 91' Carrera 4 in the fall, i have slowly fallen i love with the 911. Not that i don't like my 84' 944; but the 911 remind me more off my old MG, as a simple rough sportscar.

I have used the last month reading all the webpages of 911's and the 911 board to be a little prepared.

So today i took the 944 out off winter storage (heated garage), it fired up on first attempt. I Drove the 20 miles to a porsche shop that had some 911's for sale.

And there she was, a 79' red 911 SC Targa, restored in 1998, looking awesome. We spendt 35 minutes alone on the highway and some twisty roads; and the Shop owner took me for a demo run, driving her to the limit's, Wouw. I' was sold. Not that i don't get a thrill out off driving the 944, but the 911 just intensifies that feeling. It's not as easy a drive, but it's an experience, and a very satisfieing one.

The interior was in very good shape, seat's newly recovered, and everything working, no rust, new rubber seals, full service book, a.s.o.

S O ! I DID IT

I Bought the 911 SC, and traded in the 944, that way i had it covered financially.

That's Why I'm leaving the Watercooled area, going Air Cooled.

I Want to thank people on the 944 list at rennlist for advice and inspiration.

Maybe one day i'll gowatrcooled again.

Bye for now

Congrats - enjoy your new ride. Just make sure you remember the little people. Oh yeah, you still need to stay clear of those 951's.

At several key transition times in my Porsche owning life, I have given thought to going air cooled: when I bought my new 944, my new 968, and even when I considered selling my 968 as its 10th anniversary with me was on the horizon. Each time both my rationality and emotion rejected the idea.

The force of the herd will be with you.

I know, those 951's are faster than a 911 SC. The SC goes like 7 sec. 0-60 and that's like a sec. slower than a 951. But in my contry the 951's i have seen for sale is the same price tag as the 911 SC thats more than 14K $ (remember my country taxes 180% on cars, meaning prices are 2-3 times as high as in normal countries). And i have actually only seen 2 951 for sale in my country during the last year.

Actually the SC does'nt feel that much faster than a 944 N/A, but i pulls a little harder beween 3000-4500 rev.

And the sound is (i think) better than the 944.

But maybee if prices drop dramatically on 944's in my contry, i will by one for winter car.

Congrats on the purchase Zen, I hope that she treats you nice!

We need to meet and talk Porsches! I'm in Copenhagen every day and it's a shame that we haven't met yet..

Btw, do you think it would be a good idea to try and sell 944's in Denmark? I am planning on selling both of mine to get a 951..
