My new (1999) Boxster
I am now a member of the two-Porsche club. I just purchased a 1999 Boxster.
I haven't driven the car much yet, but so far I love it. It reminds me quite a bit of my 944: Yes, more power might be nice, but it handles and brakes like a dream. There's a certain exit ramp that I take pretty hot when there is no traffic in front of me. I'm on the edge at 60 MPH with my 944. I took it at 60 with the Boxster and felt like I had a lot more room to work with.
Anyway, I can't wait for the snow to disappear and for some top-down weather to make its appearance.
Cheers,
Mark

Bah!
When my dad had that Miata, I still drove it top-down after the snow fell!
Anywho, nice car! I've always wanted to drive one of those...

Mark thats a beautiful Boxster! Here in Cali its getting harder and harder to find a 97-00 Boxster in good condition. It's like they are being treated like 914s here now Some owners have no respect for their cars I guess.
BTW: Beautiful 944 there!!! It reminds me of my old one before it passed on....

Congrats Mark, boxsters are becoming quite a bargain for the handling that you get out of them, and the sound of the flat 6 is nice no matter what its in.
Looks like you have a nice addition to your Porsche stable.

I went for a test drive in a 99 Boxser with 72k on the clock a couple of weeks ago. Silver just like yours. This one had red leather interior. I must admit that I was very impressed with the car. Much more fun than I thought. If I could find one in triple black I might make the move. Good luck with the addition.

Faster then the na slower a bit in the straight then a 951 but better then a stock 951 in coners. Basically Boxster S 951-951S and Boxster 944na-944s. From what I know I driven only a early Boxster and no Boxster S just seen how they perform on the track.

Congratulations on the purchase. That is a terrific looking car. I know the snow and ice are killing you though. I haven't driven my 944 since last Saturday and I'm suffering from withdrawal.

Classic in silver! Gotta love the looks of that car, very modern Porsche! Never drove one...how "slow" is it?? Not bo be too tacky...how much was it???
I saw a white Boxster on the drive home from the train station last night (sleet, 2 inches of snow). The poor guy was sliding all over the place! Had to slow down to 10 mph with the hazzards on!

I need a fun sports car which is relatively easy to work on. Main reason I got involved with this hobby is to play with tools and technicals. To perform my own mechanical maintenance and upgrades. But I heard working on Boxters is a nightmare. Heard that a simple oil change cost several hundreds because of their difficult access. Is anyone interested in confirming or dispelling this rumor?

The interior is Boxster Red. I wasn't too hot on the idea of a red interior, but after seeing it, I like it.
I told myself that if my primary desire in a car is horsepower, then I should forget about buying Porsche. I simply cannot afford 300+ horsepower with a Porsche badge. I could buy a Mustang GT. However, any moron can drive fast in a straight line. I want a sports car. That being said, I've been driving an '86 944 for nearly eight years. The extra 50-60 HP in the Boxster is a big improvement. The Boxster does push me back in the seat when I hit the gas. Five years from now if I really need more power, then I might consider a supercharger.
The sound of the engine (especially when it goes above 4000 RPM) is seriously addictive!!!
I haven't changed the oil myself yet, but it looks super easy. Look under the middle of the car, and the drain plug and oil filter are right there. It looks to me like it will be easier than changing the oil on my 944. I also have heard of people paying over $100 for an oil change. It seems to me that anyone paying that much is getting ripped off. Keep in mind, we're talking about 8 quarts of oil. With Mobil 1 from Wal-Mart, that right there is $30-$40. A mechanic probably increases that to over $50. I've seen the filters in catalogs for $10, but I'll bet a mechanic boosts that up to over $20. Add the labor, and there's your $100. I look forward to doing the job myself. Although, without a lift, it might be a little trickier to get an oil pan under the Boxster than my 944. I figure I can use a jack to lift the car enough to get access to the filter and plug, drop the car to let it drain, then jack it back up to put in the new filter and the plug. Anyway, the oil plug, oil filter, and filler opening are very easy to access.
If you love your 944, then by all means take a drive in a Boxster some time soon.
One drawback I see in the future is related to the track. I'm 6'3", and I would need a roll bar extension (or some other modification) to do Drivers Ed. I guess I'll keep tracking the 944, which is fine with me. The 944 is a much better car than I am a high performance driver. I can learn plenty from my 944.
