Default Suggestions for Replacement Outside Mirrors

The electric adjustable mirrors on a 944 are solid little items, which is generally good. That said, I'm always looking to reduce weight on my track car. Can anyone suggest a manual mirror that adapts (generally) to the same mounting location and that is lighter? This is for an 85 car.

I've heard that the mk1 VW Golf/Scirocco/Jetta fits nicely and looks like a perfect fit for dirt cheap. I might be wrong, but I think Porsche used a similar mirror on the 924 SE and maybe the early 924. I personally think they look really sweet on the early 924/944.

VW part number 171857501 (left)171857502D (right).

The VW ones won’t fit very well as the base is contoured differently though the actual mirror may be similar to the early 924. There is a guy in one of the Facebook groups that makes very light manual mirrors based on the 944 Turbo Cup mirrors, those would be perfect Let me see if I can look him up and I’ll edit this post with details.

Edit: Here are the nla Turbo Cup mirrors for reference at the bottom and a link to the ones made by Marco Antonio on Facebook

I've always liked the look of SPA mirrors.

Thanks for the replies.

MAGK944: Is there a link missing? FYI I don't have a Facebook account but my kids do.

Kurt- I took a quick look at the SPA website. I guess the trick is find the stalk/base attachment design that holds the mirror level when attaching to the specific slope of a 944 door. I was hoping someone had specific intel as to what works.

The 968 mirrors are available as manual mirrors with the correct parts in them. I switched to them from my electric flag mirrors and there was a weight savings (although at this time I can't remember nor can I locate my excel spreadsheet with my tallies).

Just weighed a manual 968 mirror and my (not entirely accurate but close enough) scale says it's 2 lbs 3 ounces. Electric flag mirror is 3 lbs 9 ounces so weight savings of almost a pound and a half each side.

Again, thanks for the replies. I just ordered a set of SPA mirrors from Pegasus Racing. I'll see how they fit and proceed from there.

probably too late for a suggestion but I did similar to what is shown on the 964 with the vitaloni mirrors, just mounted them a little higher from factory base fabricating an adapter, was easy.

I'll test fit the SPAs and see how they look. That thread you linked is a goldmine of ideas. Thanks!

Appologies I missed your question, likely moot now but the link was the Facebook logo on the top right of my previous post or <Click Here>.

Btw I tried 968 mirrors on the track once and found there was quite a reduced vision compared to the flags that I was used to and so went back to flags. Something to consider
