I think there's both good news and bad news in those pictures. The good news is that most of what you see appears to be non-factory gobbledygook that someone added in to 'improve' the car. I'm not sure what that circuit board is, but it's not the DME, that's for sure! The bad news is that you'll have to get a hold of some schematics and spend some time studying them and comparing them to what you have so you can put it all back to that way it's supposed to be. This will probably be a case of spending hours of research and then 30 minutes actually fixing it. Just go slow, double check what you think you have to do, then test the various circuits as you repair them in a non-powered state before you reconnect the battery. Don't forget to check the fuses!

Appears to be stereo garbage.
Oftentimes its easiest to take it back to a stereo shop and pay them to remove the crap, they're pretty efficient and fast at this stuff.

That looks more like an aftermarket alarm... where are you located, maybe someone can lend an eye/hand locally?

Couple of resources for you besides the forum here...

https://clarks-garage.com/ and check out the garage shop manuals for procedures

https://www.porsche.com/all/media/pd...88_KATALOG.pdf for the online parts reference

You can search for 944 shop manuals and pick up a lot of different links to help with the electrical diagrams

The answer for you seems fairly simple, (From what I can see) As pointed out above all that extra crap is aftermarket. Concentrate on the "T" Splices into the factory harness. Just Eliminate them and put it all back to the way it was intended from the factory. Do it correctly, Cut the splice out and re-connect the factory wires back together using solder and shrink Tube.
If you get stuck in any way the Schematics for these cars are readily Avail online .

I had to do the same thing on my Racecar when I purchased it as a streetcar... It had the 80's "Viper" alarm and built -in Radar detectors front and rear. What a Hack Job... But it was E-Z to put it back to stock.

The Katalog file says 1988 on most of the pages. Is this the only parts catalog that's available for the 944?

944s are lumped into two groups; the '82-early 85 model, and the late 85-88 models. The catalogs are listed by the latest year for which they are applicable. The '88' catalog covers your '87 model.
