Question Has my cat been removed?

View under my recently acquired 1985.5 944. Am I correct in saying that the catalytic converter has been replaced by a straight tube? No chance of passing emissions in CA like this, I suppose.

No, not at all. Fortunately CA-approved converters aren't expensive, and oddly enough are one of the few parts for these cars that are in the system at places like O'Reilly's.

Thanks! I'm a way off being able to run the car, so maybe adding a cat is one of the last things I'll do.
