Default header bolts

Hi folks, I'm replacing seals on the oil cooler and had to pull the header out to get to it. I've heard that installing bolts on the header makes future work easier and wanted to see if anyone has a source for the bolts. Thanks

Do you mean the manifold to head fasteners? If you want to switch from studs to bolts, they're 8mm. Just purchase the appropriate length. I'd think twice about it though. The threads in the head will wear quickly being aluminum. I wouldn't do it without putting steel thread inserts in the head first.

Check with Jason, I believe the stud kits are SS. If Jason does not have SS, then contact Lindsey Racing and ask for Mike.

Be wary of the SS stud/copper nut kits, several that I've installed have been pure garbage for quality.

Op... how often are you expecting to pull the exhaust off?

Spencer, good to know. Must rethink steel with high temperature neversez on studs

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm going to keep the studs. BTW they have to be removed to get the 1-4 header off. I double nutted them and removed them to gain access to the oil cooler.
Most people had an internal leak but, my problem is an external oil leak from the housing. it was leaking a lot of oil and puddling in the garage. Though bolts would make future work easier but, there are few jobs that are easy on a 951.

I just went to a local hardware store (remember those)? … we still have a few around, few and far between. BUT! They had Metric Copper flange nuts... Put em on.. Good to go...

+1 on thread inserts if anybody ever wanted to get rid of the studs... I can attest... Having one engine that was taken apart by Previous owners like 4 to 5 times I have a just a TON Heli-coils in it in various places... so basically with bolts that are taken in and out of aluminum, in the end, you will end up with inserts..LOL

Too late but the alternative is Saturn Studs with an internal Hex key.

Topic is searchable here for the part #.

I've removed the manifolds off two of these cars with the studs in place. It wasn't that bad at all. What was preventing you from getting them out on yours?

Is you car a turbo?

I needed to remove just the 1 and 4 header. The studs interfere.

There is not enough room to remove it even with the studs out. You cant even remove it without the 2 and 3 header out as well. I just moved it out of the way of the oil cooler housing and did the job. The 4 header and shield obstruct the housing..

ARP stainless studs and 12 point nuts with extra thick washers awesome but pricy.
