Default RS door latch straps

Has anyone ever figured out how to install the RS strap as a means to open the door, but do so as easily as the factory door handle? Most people use the RS strap to pull the door closed. The ones that have used it to replace the factory door handle find that to open the door now requires noticeably more effort (I verified this thru some testing on my doors). So, I am trying to find a way to replace the factory door handle with the strap for a RS-look door panel, but maintain the ease of opening the door.

Thank you!

well the factory door handle has a lot of leverage (distance from the door cable to handle pivot vs distance from pivot to where your finger pulls.
so you'd need to come up with a lever-type bellcrank to make it easier.

Look about 2/3's of the way down in this post.

I agree with Spencer, the OEM latch is the most ergonomic. As you will see from my solution, I gave up on trying to make the strap hang down vertically. Mine are definitely harder to pull than OEM. Helps build up your finger strength for popping brewskis.

What about utilizing the door latch lever from the 964? There was a post ("RS Door panels") from 8/2014 that a member discusses using a 964 component grafted onto the 944 latch mechanism.

+1 Brilliant. You'll have to remember to let go in time...or make it a two-handed efforts with an additional fixed handle.

Not a good idea to put the metal hook through any fabric without a metal retainer. Otherwise that hook is going to tear right through the fabric eventually.

Here's a solution from a few years back, with an additional handle added for pulling the door shut.
