Default Just purchased a 85.5 project

Hey all thanks for the add on. I need some help. I just got in an 85.5 N/A. And now that i have her ive noticed odd wires and hoses disconnected and not sure why or where they go. Does anyone have manuels or good pics of what goes where in the engine compartment. So far all i have is the vin but its kinda a mess. Told it needs a starter and a knock sensor installed plus a battery to start but with what im inspecting its more than that. Wires/hoses hanging. Also has no throttle control- missing from the top of motor. Any ideas? I just want it put back together so i can move forward. Thanks. I can put up pics but ive only had her two days but is currently in my garage.

If you do a search for 'late 944 vacuum hose routing' you'll be sure to find what you need. I always thought the vacuum hoses on these cars were a mess, and that mess varies from one year to the next, so be patient in taking the time to understand what you're looking at. Good luck!

I am working through an ‘87 turbo “project” myself! I love opening the good and seeing the “mystery” left to me by a PO. All sorts of

Accidentally hit “send”!

anyway- love swing the mystery and figuring out why they did something and if it is in the “box ‘o parts” that was in the trunk. Careful research, looking at images on the internet, and not being bashful about asking for help here are the keys to getting through this. The biggest frustration is think you can move forward until you find you are missing a part- order-wait-order- wait.

Ask for help here and this is the an awesomely constructive forum. Good luck!

Start posting pictures of the mystery stuff and while you are looking up and learning about your car someone will pipe up with help. Doing it this way will help you understand what they are talking about. YMMV

Default 85.5 update

Ive kinda sorted out the vacuum lines but i still need some help with the wire connectors that are not connected to anything and just sitting there in the engine bay. What size bolt connects the ground wire to the block. Im guessing that parts were taken off my motor to make other cars sellable or run...

#1 missing cam for throttle cable. Once you have cam you can connect throttle cable. I think only944 sells aftermarket-modified throttle cam.
#2 that looks like a bolt that connects spped/reference sensor to bellhousing
#3 those are the connectors for the speed and reference sensors
#4 ?
#5 a/c i think
#6 aftermarket ground?
#7 looks like the end of a speed or reference sensor that plugs into #3

You'll be better off learning to use the 944 Workshop Manuals. Haynes is garbage:

And you'll need the PET to identify parts by their number for ordering:

If you can't open the links just Google "Porsche 944 Workshop Manuals" and you'll see a few links. Good luck!
