Default 1987 944 NA unknown 2 pin connector

Alright, I decided to pull the intake off of the old '44 and replace everything under there. Gaskets, seals, hoses etc.

So of course I pulled it apart and then wound up missing some parts I needed to order, then time got away from me in isolation and I forgot what this connects to.

Do any of you know what it is for? (circled in red) I have every other connector accounted for but this one.

It looks like the plug for the knock sensor that is supposed to be bolted on the block deck between cyl #2 and #3 (more specifically between the 3rd head stud and 3rd spark plug). It is right next to the air control valve mounting plate that seems to be missing on your engine.

I don't think NA cars have the knock sensor. They don't have the KLR anyway so the knock sensor wouldn't do much good.

Still, it could be that the harness has the connector anyway. I'm pretty sure this has come up before, and there's just an unused connector for whatever reason.

@divil : I was always under the impression that the 8V cars had a single knock sensor, then the 16V cars moved to 2 knock sensors. I'm not sure about the 951s. I'm off to PET for a check.

ETA: Well, I found exactly nothing in PET for the years previous to mine. That sure looks like a knock or reference sensor plug, though.

951s have a single sensor for sure. The second computer (KLR) does all the work, so without thhe KLR I'm not sure how the 8v NA cars could handle it. I'm not familiar with the 16v cars though. Do they have the KLR? Or is that functionality built into the 16v DME? I doubt they would have needed a second sensor since the 951 system handles knock for each cylinder individually with a single sensor.

I think the 16V cars handle everything through the DME. At the very least, nothing that I've ever read about the 3L engines has said anything about a KLR. I haven't had to dig into those systems on the car very much so there's some asterisks to my statements, but in my research into new ECUs for my car, there is nothing in any documentation about having to handle the KLR.

Cheers

Reading this, I thought no way Porsche shipped cars with unused connectors just hanging there. But wait: they are all over my footwells so... guess that's the style lol

Thanks for the info guys! I'll just tuck it away somewhere seeing as it doesn't do anything on my NA.

Now to get the intake back on. Don't know why but it intimidates me more than either of my 928s....

I believe that connector was for a vapor solenoid of some kind that showed up on '88 cars. If you look at PET in the AOS plumbing it shows two hose pt#s. That is at least according to YouTuber Edredes, whom I have no reason to doubt.
