Just another 924 Carrera GT tribute build
My very first Porsche I bought at the age of 26 was a black/burgandy 1988 Porsche 944NA. Followed by a 951, then a 944S, and a 68 912 (it never ran) before moving on to a 79 SC, two 996s, a 914 GT-look, and most recently a wrecked Boxster refurbished as a track car.
So I'm coming full circle to build my dream car - a loose tribute to the 924 Carrera GT/S. My ideals are to make it externally appear as close to the original as possible, while underneath giving it more power, and yet stick to the original Porsche driveline (no LS swaps or Audi turbos). With that end, I wanted to start with a 924 for the original narrow body, early offset suspension, early style dash, and I wanted it red! I found this running 87 924S project car in Missouri and bought it for $2700 then had it shipped to OK. I stored it for a year until I sold the 914; now time to get started on this car.

Used 944 steel front fenders were purchased from ebay and fitted. They were both in good shape except passenger side had been in a fire or something; all the paint was burned off and there was a lot of surface corrosion. Both fenders were sanded to bare metal and epoxy primed. In the process, some rust in the front passenger fenderwell was treated and sealed. The antenna hole was welded shut and ground flat.

The car was intact and mostly in good shape. A few dents and dings were hammered out. The car had been sideswiped in the right rear quarter panel but this pounded out pretty well. The rear reflector holes were welded closed and ground flat. A little body filler to make it all smooth.
Another cool ebay find was an original euro 924 rear bumper with mounts and brand new molding.
Bottom photo shows the grid for cutting the holes for header panel vents. I wanted metal (not fiberglass) and wasn't willing to pay $300 or more for an original, so I'll make my own

924 spoiler removed and replaced with 944 spoiler.
And finally - hints of things to come - 944 Turbo engine from Craigslist with blown headgasket, and suspension/brakes from 86 944 turbo (keeps the early offset for use with Fuchs). And some genuine 16x8 Fuchs for the front. Planning on 16x9 Fuchs for the rear, but probably will go with Maxilite.
Added bonus - the 951 DME has a set of Lindsey Racing chips, along with LR wastegate and manual boost controller. Turbo is K26/6 - I'm planning on the exchange program for a K26/8.

updates will be slow as I just work on the car in my spare time on the weekends. But my new GT fiberglass parts are coming from IFC tomorrow

What is your plan for the CE panel and DME / KLR location? Do you plan to use the stock 951 intercooler? Does it fit under the NA nose panel?

Thanks all. Yes the intercooler will fit. I’ll have to cut out a couple pieces for access. DME and KLR should fit in the passenger footwell just like the 951 I would imagine, but I haven't pulled back the carpet yet to look

The area around and above the passenger footwell is where the HVAC lives in the early design chassis.

I remember reading threads from you and some of the other old timers on this board and it’s good to see folks sticking with the platform, but doing cool builds now.
I was thinking about relocating the battery for a lower center of gravity and saw another thread where it was mentioned a smaller battery could be fit in the passenger side fender well - where the ABS pump on later cars located. Do you think it’s possible?
