Question Remove plunger from lifter

Has anyone had any success removing the plunger from a lifter? I've seen methods advised such as banging the lifter on a wood block, or pulling the piston out with needle nosed lock pliers, but neither work for me. It looks like the plunger surround is peened over at four or more points, which may explain the difficulty?

NON- Removeable, It is crimped together... If that center part of the lifter comes out, the oil pressure behind it will over-stroke the valve and smash it into the piston.. Ask me how I know.. LOL

They can be removed. If i remeber correctly you will have to depress the plunger and use a dremmel or similar to flatten the deformation from the 4 peened points and then bang it on some wood as reccommended. Can I ask why you want to do this?
