944S Key Button Question

944S Key Button Question
Hi! First time poster! Bought a 944S today that I'll save the details of for another time.
The situation at hand. I got 3 keys with the vehicle, none of which have the Porsche crest on them, and none of which have the light in them. Even though we're in the era of smartphones being a flashlight anywhere, I thought it would be neat to have one of these keys with the light. (and the keys have the crest).
So, my question. All of the keys have the light missing. Easy, found that on Pelican, and found crests on Pelican. In the key that currently has a battery, I feel no reaction from the button, though. I don't feel any sort of "On" when I push it, and no sense of springing back to off. Looking at the mechanism inside, my suspicion is that there is some form of spring that should sit in the center to raise the battery from the contact? Is that the case? Or once a bulb in there, does it become apparent that the electrical contact acts by some sort of metal flexing? Holding it upside down, I can feel the button fall down, screaming to me there's a spring that sits in the center inside of the contact (which is a circular ring). However, I can't find the particular spring anywhere on parts sites, and I've been googling, and can't find any videos of operation of the keys, or of the internals. Where would I go to order this missing spring, if it exists?
I know I ought to just buy a new housing, and drop the key into that housing. But I love tinkering.
Thanks in advance!

I did more googling, and there is definitely a spring that should be sitting in the center, that is no longer there.
Anybody know of a source for these, or specs I could use to find a replacement? Otherwise I'll just get a new key head.

Three Wheelin'
Hey there.
Don't buy one yet - I'm on the road right now, but I might have a parts keyhead at home that I'll send you for free. I'll let you know on the 14th.
Congrats on the purchase, the S has become a rare bird. You might want to make sure the tensioner pads have been changed. Here is a nearly 20-year-old thread on the subject:

Agreed on the tensioner pad replacement. I remember when mine went way back when, spent a year fixing the head myself. But man, the 944S is a fun car to drive!

Buying one is not very expensive, and for sure the easy button (ba dum, bum!) but there are also tutorials available if you search the web for converting the key to LED. I did it for both my 944 and 928 keys and it's pretty simple, you just have to pay attention to the LED polarity.

Micah, thanks for checking!
Actually, I forgot that there was another key on a separate ring. Turns out this has everything but the crest! Now to go to a radioshack or something for a battery so I can see if the bulb is burned out or not.

Can just the stock bulb be replaced? If so, what is the bulb? I supposed I could search, but I imagine someone has the answer here
(PS: If you drop the key, the bulb appears to easily break.. ask me how I know)

I suspect with a bit more googling, they're a standard type of bulb size that can be had for fractions of the cost. Will post when I find that.

Pelican has them form Porsche, part number 928-537-630-02-OEM. However, suspect they can be had much cheaper. And, by the reviews, sounds like, as somebody else pointed out, the output is pretty low.
