Buying 1988 944 Turbo S
Hi Rennlist,
New member here. I'm picking up a 88 944 Turbo S this Sunday and wanted to know what to look for to confirm it's a real Turbo S. The vin seems to check out, WP0AA2952JN151213. It was raced and the interior is gone. The car was repainted blue but is supposedly a silver rose edition. Car also has a lindsey racing Turbo (original is not there). Engine blew a head gasket on a high speed run on the salt flats but was rebuilt (no paperwork). Engine harness is a mess and the car wont start. I know it's a project and I'm thinking I'll make it an autocross car unless I can somehow find an interior without paying an arm and a leg. I know it has some big issues but I got it for a steal, literally. I owned a 83 944 NA in the past but always wanted a Turbo or Turbo S. Feel free to post anything else I should look for.

Hope your getting it cheap...well the Turbo S cars had the 26/8 turbo and I believe the 88 Turbo S genereally had the factory coilovers and larger brakes M030 package. So if you can find the option sticker that would help. If you can find the original paint on the car silver rose is like a silver with a light pinkish in it, different than zermatt which is silver with a touch of beige. The interior would of been one of the easiest ways to tell. 88 is the only year of a true Turbo S but as you know they did a regular turbo trim as well.

Look for a triangular sheet metal frame brace below the power steering reservoir although after having been ravaged by track use, gutting and color change; does it really matter if it started life as an S?
Make it into what you want and enjoy. Post some pictures.

Race Car
This is true as well if your trying to bring it back to stock and correct it will be extremely expensive in the long run generally more than the value but if you just make it what you want it will be a nice enjoyable car. Any who post some pics when you get it, excited for you.

Here are some preliminary pictures. It was originally a silver rose, the original paint is def the silver rose paint and it has a factory sticker under the hood next to the fuse box that says "silberrosa". Also all other items check off for the 944 turbo S, rolled fenders, frame braces, koni & big brake kit. Also I have the missing headlight cover, I took it off so it didn't fly away while towing.

Glad you were able to get the car!! Its a shame that someone turned a fairly rare Turbo S into a race car. The car has a ton of potential, no matter which way you go with it and I think it will make for a fun project!!
