Default Ok, this is a disease...

What's that Doritos commercial about not being able to have just one? Just negotiated a purchase of an 83 in pretty rough shape. Against all that I stand for, I think I may have fun with this car by transforming it into...? It should be arriving in a couple of weeks - Let the games begin!!

Take the entire drive line out,and interior and make it a roller..Take it to a custom shop, have them cut it behind the driver's seat, extend the chassis about 18" and install an LS3 in the middle with a ZF transaxle...should be an interesting project...LOL!

So take a perfectly balanced car and unbalance it.

Put in one of those sweet Audi V6 engines, either turbo or supercharged (which would be my preference, they make great sounds). Those engines are pretty small.

I can't wait to see what you do.

Cheers

Hey congrats. After seeing what you've done with your other 944 will be interesting to see where you go with this one. Personally I'm tempted by the VW/Audi 1.8t swap but maybe you're a purist. Looking forward to pics , will your interior be rougher than mine??

I love the cookie cutters. Wish there was a 17” option.

cool. I like the campy wheels and the upsized dials, but those prices are way too rich for my wallet.

I'm going to stick with the cookies since I've got a couple nice sets.

If I won the lottery some of those monoblocks would look great on a 944, I believe.

I'd like to see what a 944 would look like on the gold Campys. Very different look that what we normally see.

So, she arrived yesterday and I wasted no time grabbing the wrenches. This is what I know thus far:

- Mid-year 1983, WPOAA094XDN463022
- Manual sunroof (expected) and power steering (not expected)
- Has the same sport suspension as my 84 (three blue marks on the front strut springs)
- Option Code List:
1. C76
2. E11
3. 158
4. 220
5. 431
6. 546
7. 567

On the operating table:

The interior was trashed!

I removed the spark plugs to get a rough idea of what may have been going on inside and found two different types of spark plugs.

The moment of truth, I removed the timing belt cover and found this:

Luckily, the timing belt was intact so, with the plugs out, I VERY carefully rotated the crank bolt and the engine spun freely!!! It sure looks like the original water pump (no guide).

The battery box was full of debris but only showed very minor surface rust once cleaned (another bullet dodged...).

Much more to come...
