Do I need to have AC off when the car is parked?
Just wondering because I recharged my AC with 134 about 3 months ago, haven't driven much since then and I lost the cold air. It passed the vacuum/pressure test so I am assuming it hasn't lost that much r134a.
Perhaps I need to disengage the compressor when the car is not in use?
It's an 89 turbo.

the main reason to turn the ac to the off position when you stop the car is to keep the electrical load off the system for better starting. in theory, while parked, the compressor is "not compressing" so it wouldn't matter if the switch was on or off

Maybe try storing the compressor in the fridge when not in use
Seriously though, in a static state, the system will either hold pressure or it wont. It will not make any difference if turned off when not in use.

Then again, I don't turn the AC off on our 259k mile E36 BMW so it probably isn't that big of a deal either.

Hmm, I searched around and some people suggest filling R134A only up to 80% of what R12 held. Any reason behind this other than adjusting the difference in molecule size?
