Unhappy Hit in rear at 35-40MPH!

Well, I write to you with a heavy heat and a snoot full of vicodin. I was rear ended Friday at 7:30 am at roughly 35-40mph. Here's what happened:

I was going down Austell Rd due to a huge backup on I-75. The traffic in front of me came to a qick stop. I nailed the brakes and thought whew! I stopped fast enough. I looked in my rearview mirror to see the guy behind me looking in his rearview mirror. (I could'nt see his hood.) Before I could even think Oh ****! I was hit. All I remember is slamming against the seat back. I came to and rolled out of the car. I stood up and dialed 911. I turned to go to the car in front of me when the guy who hit me ran up to see if I was OK. I must have given him a look because he asked me if I was OK while backing up. I saw the lady in front of me dialing with shaking hands and I told I was on the phone and if she needed an ambulance. Her son was crying and they dispatched.....everyhting.

I noticed a car coming off of the lawn to the right of the accident and late figured the lady had run off to the right when it happened. (Her tires were squeaking as she left the scene.)

A witness said my car came off the ground in the rear 4-5ft in the air and landed on the guy who hit me. Had the blow been straight on, I think the guy behind me would have been in real trouble. His Honda Accord was buckeled to the front tire.

I have a broken thumb and cannot yawn/cough without pain. I am truly blessed I didn't get injured more than this. See the following pictures. Remember that a mjority of the energy went to ejecting the car upward, not inward......

I have more pictures, I just have to post them 1 at a time.

(Weee, this pain medicine rocks!)

Well, I cannot attach the pictures because they are over 1mb each. Tell me how to shrink them and I will show you guys....

someone should be able ot shrink them for you.

Sorry about the accident, glad that you arent terribly injured...

at least rear endings, at least in RI but i figure in most states, are 100 percent the person behind you 's fault right?

If you have "microsoft photo editor", stock on your machine probably, open each photo with it and pick "re-size", and make them 650X430 pixels. Then re-save them under a meaningful name like "wreck photo 1" or something like that. Then attach them to the post.

Glad to hear you are OK.

This sux big time. But remember, cars can be replaced, people cannot. By the way, doesn't your neck and back hurt? Hm-m-m, Enough pain and suffering and you'll have some extra $$$ lying around, and a newer, better 951, too!

Yes, he was ticketed and I got to go to the impound yard to get my stuff.

The officer responding gave me the front crest as a momento.

My wife began to cry when I called her to come and get me. She knew how much time I spent on my girl.

Congratulations on surviving. Sorry about the car.

Looks like a total loss... frame buckling at the door perhaps?

What a shame.

When I was hit, I hit the lady in front of me at a sharp angle. Notice the bumber is not damaged, and the doors still open fine. A true compliment to these cars!

Awesome license plate for a 951. Sorry for your loss. Looks pretty much totaled. I think I'd go ahead and call a lawyer to determine what you should do next. Normally I'd suggest waiting on the insurance companies to work it out, but with the injuries and such it might be better to have some advice up front. Glad you're ok.

I thought it was kinda cool when I got the plate. Notice the coffee stains on the windshield. I was covered in coffee. The dash was still dripping when I got my stuff out!!

Sorry to hear it James.... but that's life in Atlanta traffic (I'm SO glad I haven't had to drive in it on a daily basis for the last year ~ one huge benefit to unemployment). I about got nailed several times other than that, usually on the bike though.

If there's anything I can do to help out, say the word. I've got nothing but time on my hands if you need something done.

Brian,
The only thing I need now is to get a positive appraisal to go after his insurance company. I used to work for an insurance company, so I feel pretty good. I don't know who his was because he would not talk to me and kept his distance. I did talk to the officers though. They were nice and complimented the car. They did make sure to secure my weapon once I advised them of it's location though! (I didn't seem that mad, but hey, I just got butt plugged.)
