I've been making slow progress on the design, it's cold here and my garage isn't heated so hands-on work has been limited. The front battery module design is complete and I have most of the parts on hand to assemble it including the laser cut parts from send cut send.

The rear motor has arrived, so I now have all the big parts!

I did purchase a small distraction that needed some attention to improve the stereo.

I figured with all the Tesla parts going into my 944 it might be fun to own a real Tesla!

I will update the 944 build as I work through the battery assembly.

Looking good!

I did manage to get my hands on the full Vintage Voltage Season 2 episode 10 in which the convert a 944 S2 using tesla small drive unit in the rear. I could not see any detail about mounting of the motor in rear, unfortunately. They did shove a small batter pack above the rear-mounted motor, where the fuel tank used to be , ish. A bit more detail was revealed about mounting of the large battery pack in the engine bay. Looks like they added two additional subframe cross members to the chassis, one appears bolted on and not sure about the other. By the looks of it, they *may* not have actually used the existing subframe to support the battery box at all. I'm guessing, tho. Part of the drama of the episode is that the front battery box barely fit, and required some cutting away of the front bracing in the 944 engine bay that supports the radiator, and that also houses the hood latch.

I *believe* the battery arrangement is 16 VDS355-style modules in front, and 4 in rear. Each is 4s3p 2.2kW 14V, and they say they were very concerned with front/rear weigh balance of the finished car. I'm very much hoping to get away with a single battery pack in front using 16 6s2p VDA355 modules, each 2.2kW and 22V. This may make the front too heavy (I'd also like to stay close to 50/50 balance) but I need to do some more calculations to be sure my approach can work.
