Default Vacuum Resevoir Needed For Heat?

Hey guys trying to figure out why my heat isn’t working. Seems to be vacuum related as the plunger doesn’t move but the blower and everything else does. When I did the v8 swap in this car I took out the vacuum reservoir by the battery (thinking at the time it was for emissions) is it needed for the heat to function? Thanks for your help!

The heater valve is controlled by vacuum. No vacuum, no heat.

I figure that. All the vacuum lines are attached just the vacuum reservoir was remove and the single line blocked off. Just need to know if that specific reservoir is require to pull enough vacuum to engage it. It’s on a separate line than the heater valve but didn’t know if the canister contains vacuum for the hvac unit itself.

On a running engine, vacuum continually changes due to throttle position, load, etc. The reservoir and various check valves ensure that there is enough vacuum to work under all conditions. I'm old enough to remember when cars had vacuum motors to run windshield wipers and they would slow down when going up hills.

Default Vacuum

Not to mention military trucks that had vacuum wipers as well. This was in the mid to later 70’s. A deuce and a half had the vacuum hose pop off that I was riding in. I thought someone had thrown a satchel charge in the back. I jumped clear of the truck at 20+ mph. Hard landing. Total embarrassment after we found out it was only a vacuum line…

My heat doesn't work either. I think the blend door actuator/motor may be broken or possibly the linkage. The heater core pipes are hot under the dash so I know there's heat!

Putting in the vacuum reservoir made no difference. Just to update. So I am assuming a vac line behind the dash might be the issue. I found the 2 under the blower, they were still attached and didn’t see any tears.

There are rods that connect the blend doors to the vacuum “motors”. The plastic clips which secure the rods in place often break due to age. Check to see if they are still connected. The clips are available.
