Where have all the cool parts gone?
Warning - Boomer talk.
Breakaway's thread got me thinking - When I joined here, everyone was looking to mod their cars.
Manual Rack.
Manual sunroof latches, or finding a non-sunroof car.
Manual window regulators.
Manual mirrors.
Replacing the rear seat with a flat shelf, with or without cubbies.
Euro bumpers
Or going the other way.
Turbo front end.
S2 wing, or 968cs wing.
968 door handles, mirrors, other bits.
Don't see that much anymore.
Is everyone content with their car the way it is?
On my S2, I'm actually thinking of putting it back to stock. Needs paint anyway.

A lot of the parts mentioned are probably much more rare now than in the past. I did install a manual rack on my 924S, and I have one for my '84 844 as well. My 924S also just a set of redone sport seats.

I love the low optioned cars. Look at that dash. Beautiful.
The switches by the shifter - one would be mirror selection, what's the other one?

Kurt R - I had an aftermarket alarm system installed. I added another switch that allows me to turn on a red light (left if steering wheel) that blinks once the system is armed. See in photos below:

I think now for me the 44 is one of two ways… totally stock concurs… and full blown race car with many parts hand made.. total freedom.. i even put some crazy mirrors on the racecar that are in between a 968 mirror and a gt3 … .. besides its harder to find a car that hasnt been modded already just increases the value of the good stock ones..

I feel ya. I kinda miss the rubber spoiler on my 951 that I tossed when I installed CPRs (RIP) 968 spoiler long ago. Otherwise the 968 handles and mirrors are still a must if you ask me.

That's the switch he used, but from the first picture there was no rear wiper. I thought he had the window sticker posted and there was no rear wiper listed.
Really rare would be a hatch with no hole.

I had thought about 968 mirrors and wing mirrors for my car but I thought it looked too modern for my taste. There is another CGM 944 on Fb and IG that has those and I'm glad I didn't update when I had my car repainted. I wanted to keep it distinctly '80s. I went the CS route with my '86 for some years with rear seat delete, lightweight door panels, etc and ended up going back to almost stock interior. For the CS-theme I also bought a manual RHD rack from Justin in the UK several years ago, shipped it 18,400 km to me in NZ and then sold it on. I'm kicking myself now as my PS is a constant cause of trouble and leaks. For my rear spoiler I went 924CGTS from AIR.
My '86 was very lightly optioned- no A/C, no central locking, no sunroof and what few options I did have I have deleted so that all that remains is the wing mirror selector switch.
[edit] There are a few things that I still want to do that I have most of the parts, I need to buy the parts or am waiting on parts to become available:
944 Turbo Cup bonnet with bonnet pins, in CF, with 968 gas struts
968 Clubsport hatch release
FOHA-style front lip
C-pillar brace

With my POS project car I've already got a manual rack I'll be installing as I didn't want the hassle of refurbing the old power rack and then waiting for it to leak. I'm thinking about Euro bumpers for sure. Sport seats would be great but I already have recovered standard seats to install. I'm not to keen on obvious aftermarket mods though
