Default Rear view mirror - broken AGAIN!

Okay, a bone head move that I’ve now done twice in 15 years. In both cases while cleaning the interior I hit my head on the rear view mirror and broken the day/night flip.

So, any known inexpensive direct replacements?

Amazon Amazon

You will also need some windshield mirror adhesive.

Remove the old mirror, leave the button on the glass. Mount the button for the new mirror immediately next to or above the old button using the proper adhesive, install the mirror.

Default Rear view mirror

My rear view mirror was totally missing when I got my car. After looking at some of them and their condition in a used parts house, I bought one at AutoZone. It’s not that much different, but might be a wee bit wider than the original. It wasn’t that expensive compared to an actual original, and It does just fine. I know this will upset some folks, but my cash at the time was a bit light. Mea Culpa

Mine didn't have a rear view mirror when I bought mine. I still don't have one but I need one. I don't feel any obligation to have the oem. I should buy one.

I see on the universal type there are 8" 10" and wider... What is the width of the OEM mirror?

These are made by ULO and are still available new. I needed a new one and gone one a few years ago for around 130 bucks, but I think they are higher now. Honestly your best bet would be to get a used one from your favorite used parts supplier. I can't see a used parts dealer wanting to charge too much for a rear view mirror.

I've also seen a company in Germany called Partworks offering one, which is probably a reproduction. They have a standalone website and also sell on ebay. Their mirror looks like $100 with free shipping from Germany.

I found the ULO brand ones and they are $200 or more.

Ordered a generic mirror on Amazon that looks similar, total cost $16. Whereas a new OEM mirrors are $160+ and a Porsche one is $200+. So, for once I definitely am saying screw originality, general safety is more important. I'll keep the broken Porsche mirror and might even mess around to see if I can fix it. Once I do that, on to the other 951 things I seem to need to do like replace the A/C switch. Yea, I think that will be the next job only because it'll get me A/C and get the switch and HVAC controls off of my desk.

My car isn't concours, and never will be while I own it anyway. PO resprayed it to gray but didn't do the engine compartment. I am imagining selling my car and buyer says, "Oh my god, this rear view mirror isn't OEM! I don't know if we can complete this sale." I will be ordering generic. Say, would you mind letting me know the width of yours, if you like it, and a link to which one you ordered? Reason I ask is that some Amazon reviews said the 8" and 10" width were too small. I have no idea what the width of the ULO (OEM) mirror was since mine didn't have one when I bought it.

The mirror in my S2 is about 9 1/8" wide at the widest part, and about 2 3/4" high.
Per Pelican, the same mirror fits the 911 '74 and up, 964, 993, 924, 944, 928 and 968, so it shouldn't be hard to source.

I bought the 10" version of this one on Amazon. It's definitely wider but slightly shorter.

How do you get the button off to put a generic mirror on? I am afraid to heat it up and accidentally crack the windshield.....

Patience, a razor scrapper to start then using a rubber hammer and ever so slightly tapped a 1.5" putty knife to get the old mirror off. There is a very thin plate that is still attached to the windscreen. That I didn't bother removing.
