Default A canyon run that didn't end to great, yesterday.

Well, there was the weekly Euro Sunday meet at VCR, and as usual, there was the impromtu (sp?) run after, since we have capable cars, and canyons a stone throw away, who can resist? Anyway, I rode in a GT3 in the front of the pack, there was a blue modded S4, at about 360 AWHP. he pulled off to let the other GT3 pass by, and thats when I saw him last. We all got to the top, known as "Top of The World" The road is Stunt Rd. its a 2000 ft climb, with a lot of very tempting and extremly fun turns. well, everyone eventualy makes it up, and we start to question about the blue audi. We figured he must have had problems, and pulled over, and just turned around.... If only that was true... well, it was thik fog up there, so we couldn't see much of the normal view that welcomes us at the top, but about half an hour later, after hangin out up there, we hear a helicopter, lower then we are, and hes somewhere over the road and not leaving... uh oh... so we make our way down the road until we get to the turn, where there are police, and fire trucks everywhere. the road was closed. we watched the firemen hike down 300 ft, looking for the victim of the car that went over. We feared it was the audi, so we started asking around... cops, firemen, civilians, about 75% said it was a red ferrari, and about 25% said it was a blue audi ( ) we watched and watched, finally the guy gets airlifted out, and then we watch as they pull the car up... we can see bushes and trees moving as the car moves em on the way up, we are so anctious to see if its red or blue. finally (about where the circle is in the photo) we see a little roof... BLUE! crap... (it came to a rest about 100 feet below the red circlem these are borrowed photos, i didn't put the circle there) the pulled the car up, where we inspected it very well, the blood was unbeleivable, and not promising along with the intial reports of severe head trauma.
I have since learned that the driver, Mike, has broken ribs, many cuts, and a cuncusion as well as a bad cut on the head. He remembers pulling over (about a quarter mile before he went off) and then remembers climbing on top of his car and yelling for help. nothing, however, of the actuall accident, what happened etc... Photos, and these make it look better then it was.

Sorry to see that happen. Are those his skid marks in the foreground of the last photo? If they are it looks to me like he was completely locked up and had zero steering.

power line shadows, but if you look at the two cop cars, and you can see a line in between em both... thats the right side of the car, on its way to the cliff. he got real sideways before he went off too.

these are the better photos of the day... this is top of the world, though you can't really understand why with the fog. one side is ocean, one side is valley...

MetalSolid & Mafly's GT3.

Looking out over the Valley to the north, the marine layer burns away as it drifts inland. Far below you can see the begining of Stunt Rd which leads up to this lookout point.

A pair of Loti.

The clouds skim over the cars & bikes up on the 2,000 ft crest

MetalSolid's car looking vibrant and bright in the Gloom.

btw, here is the reason people were saying red ferrari went off. Looks like a Ferrari Mondial GTS 328 did go off; same time different place...
