Default What is the year of this windshield production?

I have a windshield on my 944 S2, I'm deciding between replacement and polishing it with cerium oxide. It will depend on if this is windshield is from 1989 or earlier or not.

The windshields on 85-91 are all the same except for cars with a passenger airbag. Ones with a passenger airbag are different in that they have a plastic coating on the inside the glass. Those windshields should say 'SEKURIFLEX' instead of SEKURIT on the glass. Also, cabrio windshields have a different part number but I don't know what the difference is with them. But either way good luck finding a new windshield. They are in short supply with Porsche (and expensive) and aftermarket no longer makes them.

I have no problem with acquiring new windshielf, but the question is not about it. There is abundance of them on my market and they're cheap, actually polishing it costs twice the price of the new windhield. The question is about the year of manufacture of my windshield.

That bug does not include a date code. I don't recall if there's a date code elsewhere on the windshield or not. May look around the frit to see if there are any other markings.

It's important to retain originality, however I have a question if all 944S2 windscreens were green tinted (athermic)?

I have no idea. I see the green top tint in the 1985-1988 PET listed for 1987 M562 and M462 1987- cars. It also shows as 1988- with no option code, so all of the 1988+ may have gotten the green top tinted windshields.

Just my opinion, but if the scratches are deep enough to catch a nail, I'd replace, not polish.
