Default Hatch hauling

Not hauling things in your hatch, but transporting a replacement hatch.
I'm thinking of buying another hatch for my 944. Haven't looked at it yet, but on mine the spoiler is starting to look kind of sad.
I have a full sized pickup, but the hatch isn't going to fit between the wheel wells. I'm thinking of building a platform that sits above the wheel wells, and then setting the hatch on that, and crossing a couple ratchet straps over the hatch.
Good idea? Bad idea? Other ideas? I just don't want to go over a bump on the way home and have the hatch shatter.

I just flipped it over....fit in a Nissan frontier. I put some cushion under it and some straps to keep it from sliding around.

I had no issues transporting one in the back of
my Cayenne. Padded the glass of course.

You can absolutely haul a hatch in the the hatch! No, not what you're asking, but yeah, if you rotate the hatch 90 degrees it'll fit in the hatch area under the glass, with the seats down... have hauled hatches that way in the back of my first 924...

I built a plywood box for it to fit in. Took some time and material, but didn't have to worry about it at all while on the road.

That's the info I needed. Looking at the car in the garage, I thought the hatch was longer than it was wide. It's not. Only 45" from the top of the hatch to the end of the spoiler. I don't have to build anything, just turn it sideways. I can probably even close the tonneau cover.

I’ve hauled a 944 hatch in my 944 previously. Seats scooted way up but it works

Other ideas: there are plenty of used P car breakers who would gladly sell you a rear spoiler.
