From my searching, it looks like its been a while since there's been a discussion on the forum about buying rebuilt or remanufactured power steering racks. I'm looking for one, and I don't have a core to exchange or rebuild. Folks seem to have had very hit-and-miss luck with any/all remanufactured racks, even the high(er)-dollar ZF remanufactured racks. Pelican is currently listing the Porsche Genuine rebuilt rack for $4,293.50 - LMAO (who is buying this????) !!

Anyone care to share their (recent) experiences (and prices) with remanufactured racks and the brand/re-builder?

Thanks Jay - I don't actually have one to rebuild. Sourcing a used one and rebuilding is an option -- I wanted to check out the current "reman" options before going that route.

Also thanks for the search tip, I didn't know about that "other" forum! Seems to be another great resource for us

You can depower a power rack as well if you are tired of dealing with the fluid leaks

I have done rebuilt racks from Zims in TX, and never had an issue on either my 944 or 968.

Our Advance Auto has rebuilt Cardones for around $400. Probably better if you find a coupon code.

Rockauto et. al. occasionally have a reasonable price on Maval rebuilt racks. They go in and out of availability so I'd check sites regularly. I'm running one as is a friend in his 944 and we both are having good experiences. Net cost after core return and with shipping was just under $400 and includes a warranty. If they only have a rack with the "wrong" inner tie rod length for your 944, just swap them with your rack.
