Default WTB: 944 automatic tranny

Anybody have a late (85.5+) automatic transmission to replace a knackered one?

An Audi 5000 uses the same transmission. It may be easier to find one of those in a local junkyard.

Why not convert to a "real" transmission?

isn't the 968 transmission physically bigger than the 944? so u'd have to get new rear axles and some other stuff too?

So the Audi 5000 tranny is a straight bolt in, or will it have to be "tweaked"?
