Default Been daily driving the 951. What's the deal with coolant reservoirs?

After mostly using it as a weekend driver, I've driven the 951 daily for the last 4 years straight (not many miles) but now I need a Coolant Expansion Tank (Part #: 951-106-025-02-OEM). Wait, no I don't because it's $ 577.06 online! Or $612.99 from another major retailer? Or $517.40? What happened and will there ever be a cheaper, quality aftermarket version? For example, most of Porsche's coolant tanks are free! Just kidding.

You can post a WTB ad. There are also lots of dismantlers including Plyhammer Parts. (No affiliation.)

Those expansion tanks are subject to a lot of heat and pressure. Installing a used one is asking for trouble in the long term. Bite the bullet and get the Porsche original before the prices go up even more.

I like getting parts from Delaware Porsche. That is probably your best option if you can't find a good used one for cheap.

Thanks for the tip, haven't heard of them before. I definitely prefer a new one. Where are you seeing $468.00? I see a turbo one for $654.48.

When I entered your part number into their site (delawareporscheparts.com), it came up as $468.36

Bought mnie at Rosepassion. With shipping, it was a little less than 500 EUR. Hurt, but looks much better now. Old one was so deteriorated that I couldn't even check the level with a flashlight held right next to it. Great. It's nice to discover all these new 944 vendors. Checkout page is indicating $450.97 shipped. Still pricey but best price yet.

Be aware that it's a French company so you may have to pay import fees and duties on top of that.

I was all the way at the payment page, where I could use something like paypal. Is it possible they would add VAT even after paying the $450? I kept seeing notices about charges "exclusive of VAT." So when is VAT added? After the purchase?

I think someone was making them out of metal a decade or so back.

I believe you're talking about Lindsey Racing. That page is still up, but no button to add it to the cart or buy it. No mention of price, either.

If you live outside of the European Union, the country of destination will add VAT, a fee and probably extra taxes. So it may be very possible that the 450 becomes 6 or 700 for the USA. You can look up the exact fees and calculate.
