I remember reading on this forum many years ago that the way offset was measured changed around 1986. I believe it was from the edge, now it is from where the wheel mounts. Add that to the screwy switch Porsche did with the 944. 82-86 have the "original" offset, but 85.5 -86 have the new dash making the 85.5-86 something of a mutt.

As for going 8 & 7, if the original poster is looking for better driving more than better looks I would go 8 & 8 and put 225 or 245 rubber all around. Get rid of the understeer.

Can someone confirm if the euro cars came with square or staggered wheels. I thought they staggered the wheels for the US market because US drivers cant drive so they built in understeer.

From my early 85 owner's manual they had the same width tire front and rear regardless.

215/60 VR 15 on wheel rim 7 J x 15H2
205/55 VR 16 on wheel rim 7 J x 16 H2
front 7 J x 15 H2, rear 8 J x 15H with tire 215/60 VR 15**

Then it is the turbo and S2/968 that were staggered for the US, and i believe not for the ROW market. My S2 and 968 have 205/xx/16 front and 225/xx/16 on the rear. the fronts were 7 and the rears are 8.
