Well i've seen like 2 porsches in like 6 months within 20 miles or so of my house. and only 1 being a 944 and the other a 911. Never seen a 928 in rhode island.
I just went two back roads away from my house (literally 1 min of driving) to get eggs from this lady that used to be my music teacher a few years back. Her son is about 30 and lives in boston or something. I drive in, park. I walk around back to get the eggs from the lady, and theres a black 928 sitting there and hes checking the oil! I'm like woah you go ta 928, i got a 944 over here. It is an 89 928. So we started talking, and he took me for a ride. He let me drive it. I took it to about 100, it's a real sturdy feeling car, and i have to say, a very luxurious interior! obviously not built to save weight or anything, and it is a lot less of a go-kart then the 944, but it sure gets up and goes at 60 compared to the 944! I really think it was close to the Z4 even.
Well anyway.. this is the first time i drove any other porsche, and it was really cool! I'm psyched! still think i want a 951 instead though... Supposedly he frequents the 928 part of rennlist too!
Going to take a drive wiht him and a bunch of boxster people he met around RI soon i think!
Oh yeah, i got the eggs too.

if you think a 944 is a kart, drive a miata!
i've driven a couple 928's, both stick. they are really cool cars, pure GT though, much less sports car than a 944. i think the 944 is the quintessential sports car though, because although it is refined, it is still a kart and can be treated as such.
there's just something about that convertible and manual windows that screams 'raw sportscar'

They did make an effort to save some weight on the 928. Aluminum hood, fenders, doors, control arms, etc. They could have been built lighter but probably at the cost of stiffness and solid feel.
They are a very different animal, but loads of fun.

I drove a 5-spg 928 before...they all seem to be plagued with synchro problems though. I wouldnt trade my 944 for a 928 for a few reasons....
1. not as nimble
2. more expensive to buy
3. more expensive to maintain
4. not as good looking

I just thought of something, i didn't notice any badge on the rear (but i dont recall looking for one), what models did they have in 89? wondering if it was an s4 or something, because i just looked up 0-60 times, and it says like 7.2 for regular 928 auto.. i know it was way faster than this.. so i was just curious.
unless, it was just the v8 rumble getting to my head.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder...and i simply like the 944 (particularly the 951/s2's) better.

Having owned a 944 and 928 , I have to induce some seat of the pants reality here, I have driven both to their limits and hands down the better handleing car was the 928. It has better control in the corners and more torque when you want it. Don't be misled by the GT deal, I run the BRP for 270+ miles each year to SITM and there isn't anything catching up behind me. FWIW BWWWAAHHHH

Much as I love my 944, put me down for thinking the 928 styling has stood the test of time.
It is amazing to me how drastically improved (IMO) the 928 looks with Cups, Cup II's or Twists. Chjanges the whole character of the car, updates it and makes it very relevant. I think they'd sell some if they tried today...given a more competitive price. Anyway, I'd LOVE to have a GT or GTS 5 speed.
