Well, I found an abandoned 951. 86, with fuchs, black on black. 185,000 miles. Engine is probably ruined since the spark plugs are missing and moisture has probably pitted the cylinder walls. Its been sitting in the srvice parking lot of a high end dealership around here for 7 years. I came across it yesterday. the dealer has tried to contact the owner and could not. They believe he has passed away. they told me to go to the DMV and say there is an abandoned vehicle and i want the title. then there is some proccess, and if it goes through, the car is mine. Any advice?

I didn't want to post cause I'm afraid someone will try and get it from under me, but I think I can trust rennlist user are civil...
Depending on condition of the car, I'm thinking
1) part it out
2) my own parts car
3) TRACK CAR!
too expensive to restore it to a street car.

I passed by a guy on the 5 by Irivine today in a maroon 944S with a for sale in the window, rolled down my window and asked " How Much " and he said 7500.... needless to say, I didn't ask the guy to pull over

why do you need the title if its going to be a parts car?

I was thinking the same thing! Some states you can get a new title and others you can't, here any car that doesn't come with a title signed by the PO is a parts car.

Legally- yes. you have to dispose of the chassis/ shell with the VIN.

You also don't know if it maybe was reported stolen.. the last thing you need is cops knocking on your door.

Eyal ; if you know the dealer ask him to file for a mechanics lean and then the title. Once he has title he can sell it to you. Offer to pay him to do it and see what he says , nothing ventured , nothing gained.
