I love it. I wished I replaced my original 16-Ventiler, with another one. But the pumped 8v was an option I played with for years....Now, while the engine is still out of the car- be sure to detail/clean/polish/or replace, every one of the 900+ parts, that comprise the S motor. Whenever possible- get OEM quality or better parts, to ensure the rebuild will be a success. I thought I had all bases covered during the entire 3-month rebuild period, I gave myself. I learned one big lesson from my experience; you can take your time to rebuild any Porsche engine- but when it comes to making compromises of any sort...this engine is one of the most unforgiving...there simply is NO COMPROMISES, period.

ohh...missed that letdown post! I wouldn't attempt repairing busted aluminum...especially silicon-impregnated aluminum. Better scrutinize every component now for further damage. Wow, that really sux! I certainly hope you have some kind of recourse...

being that houston is a big city, you could probably find an aluminum welder to fix it, if it's repairable.
Well, I am home from out of town and now this mess. Yay!

Anyway...I ALREADY HAD THE HEAD REPAIRED BEFORE SENDING IT OUT!!! You can't tell from those pictures as the resolution is horrible.

I took the entire engine to my machine shop before selling...had parts cleaned, measured, tolerances checked, head decked, etc. I asked them to pay special attention to the head and give me their advice. They said the head is a-ok to run and needs nothing (valves and guides are good too, it's ready to install). This is a common failure on the 928 and 944S, and the shop told me the repair is bulletproof as the crack was small, and they re-inforced it to the point of overkill.

Point: The head is ready to run. I will not be called a theif, as many local guys will attest I'm anything but...and I have receipts! As for the JB Weld...the shop says they didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps you're talking about the freeze plug?

I know a welder in Rosenberg that does awesome work. Let me know if you need the number. He does quite a bit of head/block work.
