Joe,

The cover should pry right off. Try your fingers first, then a large flathead screwdriver. It's on there with a tight fit, a little gentle force won' thurt anything.

Welcome to the wasted R&P club...........

First drink is on me.

There's an 86 trans on ebay right now that ends tomorrow with 53k on it. Last I looked it was at a little over $100. Picture looked real clean. I put one in my 84 a year ago that had about 50k on it. What a difference compared to my original with 135k. Good luck, hope it doesn't turn out too bad.

Hey, thanks for the heads up! I saw all the other auctions, but missed this one (who the heck calls these things "trans-axle"). I've been searching for the holy grail of an S2 box with LSD, and I got dibs on URIN 2ND's a S box with LSD -- but for that price, I may pick it up.

Now, back to trying to pry open that stupid cover -- I've "graduated" to going at it with an 18" pry bar now....

Mine didn't take that much to get apart. I'll go out and look at my old one to remind myself if there is something else holding it on. Be back in a flash.

Nope nothing out of the ordinary holding it on. Should come off unless someone has had it apart before. It just slips together like a Winters quickchange sidebell.

Well, there was some adhesive holding it on -- but nothing that a proper tool (a big pry bar) couldn't overcome.

So I guess this constitutes my membership dues to the wasted R&P club:

I think I'll go and have a beer now.
