Default Ignition coils? What do you use?

I am changing the ignition coil in my 83 944. I think the PO never changed it. I am considering using a Mallory or a Bosch High Out Put.

What do you guys use?

I am a big advocate of keeping things stock but I am not sure if it would be better to go with a higher output coil apposed to the stock coil?!

I had an MSD ignition in the yellow car, and I think that it actually heped a little, car starts up alot quicker and it seems to add a little seat of the pants feeling to it, I might go for one of those if I had to get another...

I like my MSD Blaster 2 coil. I could tell a difference. I had changed the plugs and wires before that and couldn't tell any difference, but the coil made a difference. Now I'd like to add an MSD unit.

I have to agree on the blaster 2. Used it on my N/A and noticed a difference. Have not installed it on the turbo yet though.

Blaster 2 is the way I went also. Noticed a little smoother power curve, my coil may have been weak, but I didn't notice hesitations I had been before.

I recently replace both the plugs and the coil in my 1994 968 and that combo made a very noticable improvement in power/drivability. Both the coil and the plugs were the Bosch OEM replacements.

When you guys went to Blaster 2, did you also go to 8mm wires or stayed stock?

Blaster2, noticed a difference I think. Cheaper than stock so why not? I used the 8mm wires from Paragon. Also noticed a difference when I did those, but I didnt do them at the same time.

If you switch to the Blaster 2, do you need to change anything else? Forgive my igornorance, can you get these at any local auto parts store?

You should also upgrade the wires to 8mm - both to get new rubber and to increase shielding. You do not need any additional parts to use the Blaster2 coil - it plugs right in. However, the outer diamter is smaller than the OE unit, so you'll have to arrange something there. I used 1/4" peel-n-stick foam insulation wrapped around the unit - works fine. Others have replaced the OE bracket with the MSD bracket.

Some local parts stores should have it. Jeg's and Summit Racing are pretty good online sources.

Good Luck!
