I cannot seem to be able to fully compress the mirror springs with the 14mm hex tool - way way too stiff... and having problems also using the bolt and nuts gizmo... I'm using metric parts, hence M12 which fits well down the centrehole of the spring assembly, but don't really have the space to fit the nut inside the mirror, once I have fit the spacer and the washer... :s

I stand corrected. As you push, just when you think that vein in the right hemisphere of your brain is about to pop, you can turn it and lock it.

Yeah the eye bolt "special tool" is the bomb, works well. Still takes a bit of muscle tho.

I used a 14mm hex key at the end of a T-shaped handle. Because currently I don't have access to a bench vice, I pushed the mirror assembly against the chest whilst compressing the spring. Not recommended. But it got the job done.
